Abstract

Accurate tuning of pH process control is a challenging problem in many industries which includes wastewater treatment, chemical processing and pharmaceuticals due to the strong online nonlinearity. Ziegler–Nichols tuned PI controllers provide poor performances for higher-order and nonlinear systems. A new strategy, to augment the pH process control, is offered in this paper. This research proposes fuzzy as well as ANFIS (adaptive network Based fuzzy inference system) tuning scheme for an industrial pH process. The intelligent controller is designed based on a Mamdani-type and Sugeno-type fuzzy system for tuning the pH process. The proportional and integral constant is adjusted by a new rule of fuzzy for proper tuning. A class of adaptive networks (ANFIS) which are functionally equivalent to fuzzy inference systems is also proposed for improvement in tuning. A novel approach based on tuning of fuzzy logic control as well as ANFIS for a pH process is given in this paper. The performance has been analysed and the results obtained are presented.
