Heat wave, Modelling, Simulation, Insulation, Thermal mass
Climate change has been identified as a major challenge globally as its consequence can have social, economic and environmental impact on the global and/or local climate. In buildings, the increase in external temperature will affect the performance of the building fabric which is the barrier between the internal environment and the external environment. The materials used in the construction of the building fabric will therefore have an impact on the internal environment. Thermal simulation is used to compare the effect of insulation and thermal mass added to the building fabric of a dwelling which is naturally ventilated during a heat wave on the temperature of the internal environment.
