Blind people, portable device, counterfeit banknote detection, banknote speaker, and Thai banknote
The way of living for the blind in their daily lives nowadays seems to be very difficult. For example, they have difficulties in completing transactions involving money, as it is difficult for them to distinguish the differences between banknotes. At present there’s no device to assist them. One result is the blind are often cheated by others. This research presents a device that will be used for telling the denomination of banknotes to the blind with voice, and includes making voice when a counterfeit banknote is detected. It is inexpensive and easily portable. This device consists of 4 main systems, the first system classifies the denomination of banknote, the second system detects the counterfeit banknotes, the third system processes the data and the last system produces the voice. The system measures the length of banknote to classify denominations. To detect counterfeit banknote, the system uses the reflection of ultraviolet light operating from a black light bulb to detect the differences of the counterfeit banknotes from the genuine banknotes. The proposed device has been used for the experiment with Thai banknotes with 90% accuracy in classifying the banknotes and 100% accuracy in detecting the invented counterfeit banknotes.
