Abstract

This paper reports on a method of detecting the types and particle sizes of fillers used in rubber composites at microwave frequencies. The samples were measured at X band using a free space microwave non-destructive testing technique utilizing rectangular dielectric waveguide (RDWG) system which offers the advantage of minimal sample damage and thus more accurate de embedding. The measurements are supported by a full three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation to allow accurate modeling and de-embedding of the RDWG set up. The simulation results agree very well with the data obtained from the measurement, and our experimental results are in close agreement with other researchers.
