Abstract

This paper presents a complete numerical analysis of remotely pumped single pass (SP) Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) integrated with a chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG). Attenuation and dispersion compensation inside the amplifier are analyzed. The effects of pump power, signal power, signal wavelength, EDF length and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) on the gain and noise figure (NF) of the remotely pumped SP EDFA architecture are analyzed from the numerical simulation of the EDFA rate equation model. Using these findings as well as considering the high gain and low NF by very low remote pump power as main design objective, the design process of remotely pumped optimized EDFAs for repeaterless long haul optical fiber communication system (OFCS) is described.
