Abstract

Design of fault-tolerant WDM networks is critically im portant and has received much attention in the last few years. Traffic grooming techniques, are used to combine low-speed individual requests for connections onto high speed lightpaths in an efficient manner. Non-bifurcated traffic grooming has a number of important technical ad vantages over bifurcated grooming and has received con siderable attention recently. This paper addresses the ques tion of designing optimal non-bifurcated traffic grooming strategies using path protection schemes for fault-tolerance.
