Optimization is used in constructing lower order models from high order transfer functions. The opti mization is carried out in both the frequency domain and in the time domain with the use of three typi cal problems. The results show that determination of reduced models in the frequency domain is compu tationally faster and easier than in the time domain. Furthermore, the reduced model obtained in the fre quency domain gives better response to an impulse in put than the reduced model obtained in time domain by using step input.
