Abstract

The paper presents the concept and the architecture of the ship engine room simulator aimed for cadets and marine engineers training. The simulator includes a model of an engine room powered by a low-speed marine diesel engine. Simulator software consists of many independent modules, installed at different terminals connected in LAN. Each system module was developed and tested separately, but considering its future connectivity in mind. The appropriate communication protocol and the common module interface enable a close co-operation between the single components and a parallel processing of the data. The paper presents the brief description of the simulator hardware and the operation as well.
