Abstract

In this paper a cable position sorting method for the balance of current distribution of parallel connected cables is proposed. Based on mutual inductance theorem and numerical iteration technique, a current distribution calculation method is first developed. To implement the sorting algorithm, two current distribution indices are introduced with one indexes the power loss of all cables and the other the largest cable current value. The index values of different cable arrangement patterns generated by a novel permutation reduction method are then calculated and sorted. Three cable configurations are studied. According to the sorting results and magnetic coupling theorem, some recommendations for the arrangement of cable positions, aiming for more balanced current distributions, are presented.
