Abstract

The aim of this study is to provide a quantitative as sessment of the speaker discriminating properties of broad phonetic groups. GMM based approach to speaker mod elling is used in conjunction with a phonetically hand labelled speech database (TIMIT) to produce broad pho netic group ranking based on speaker identification scores. The broad phonetic groups nasals and vowels were found to be particularly speaker specific. Experiments show that the homogeneity of the speech material may improve the quality of speaker identification.
