Abstract

- In IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks, the binary exponential backoff algorithm is used in the medium access control protocol to resolve contention problems of mobile stations. Unfortunately, this algorithm has been shown to be highly easy to collide in the case of large number of mobile stations and then causes poor utilization of the wireless channel. In this paper, a window control mechanism called Random and Random (RR) contention window control mechanism is proposed to improve the utilization of the channel by dynamically modifying the contention window size to reduce the collision probability and then enhance the performance of wireless channel.
