Abstract

This paper describes a method to accurately model the shape of a daily load profile in a power system environment. The model uses a Fast Fourier Transform and because the resultant decomposed elements are continuous sinusoidal functions it may be applied analytically to a variety of load related problems. In this paper the model is used to develop an optimal load leveling strategy in systems employing energy storage devices. The process is illustrated by applying it to an experimental Vanadium Redox Battery (VRB) system.
