Abstract

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) techniques are increasingly used to address exploding demands for bandwidth required by emerging applications of the Internet. In this paper, we present a new algorithm for wavelength management that addresses the Quality of Service (QoS) issue, as measured by the probability of blocking. The impact of the algorithm on the fairness among the different classes of traffic and on the revenue of the network is evaluated. We conclude that the network revenue is maximized by the proposed algorithm.
