Photonic band gap (PBG), finite difference time domainmethod (FDTD), optical filters, and nanostructures.
In this work we applied the FDTD method in the design of Photonic Band Gap optical filters for application in wavelength multiplexing systems. Results show that structures made of circular holes may be used in a CWDM grid between 1470 and 1610 nm. It is shown that up to eight wavelength may be inserted in this region. On the other hand, structures with rectangular holes have shown poor filtering response in the stopband region, making them unusable as transmission filters.
