Abstract

The lately combination of XML and databases give organizations new opportunities to manage XML data. The easiest combination is to produce XML from the data in the database. More challenging is the storage of XML data in the database. Altogether five different levels of XML and database combinations can be recognized. This paper presents results from a multiple case study research, where the solutions and the plans that the organizations are having related to XML and databases were examined. The results indicate that the case organizations are at the beginning of combining XML and databases.
