Music, Content-based retrieval, Representative melodies
Even though the primary goal of using the representative melody index in content-based music retrieval systems is to enhance user's response time, when the representative melodies for the index are not extracted appropriately, the primary goal could not be achieved. The representative melodies of a music object must stand for the music itself and have high possibility to be used as users' input queries. In this paper, we propose an extraction mechanism that automatically extracts the representative melodies such as the first melody, the climax melodies, and repeated theme melodies approximately with considering musical composition forms. Considering musical composition forms is able to correctly catch the contrast, repetition and variation of melodies.
