Abstract

Data Warehouses have traditionally been passive repositories of corporate data. There was a significant propagation delay between when data was captured by the source systems, and when it was loaded into the warehouse. Whilst this has worked well in the past quite successfully, competitive pressures have started to force the reduction of this propagation delay. This paper provides an overview of active, real-time and temporal databases, some of the issues facing active data warehouses, and architecture and implementation models for an active data warehouse currently being built.
