Abstract

The present study develops a new propulsion mechanism based on the inertial force. This mechanism is not a pushing away of the land surface but is based on a pulsating lateral inertial force arising from a by shaking mass, and through the difference between the friction coefficient equivalent according to the direction on the ground surface. The principle of the propulsion mechanism is analyzed theoretically and it is proven that continuous locomotion actually can be induced. Through locomotion tests using the produced prototype robot, it is proven that the present propulsion mechanism functions in practice.
