Abstract

The introduction of autonomous mental development paradigm in robot learning has demonstrated obvious advantages over traditional behaviour-based learning techniques. However, several challenges exist in the autonomous mental developmental robot, including the conflict between the increasing demand of computing capacities and the physical constraints of the robot and also the issue of how to share knowledge among robots. Cloud technology may help to solve some of these challenges. In this paper, a case study was performed to examine the benefits of applying cloud technology to an autonomous mental developmental robot. The experimental results demonstrate that cloud technology can not only decrease the robot’s computational burden through task distributions in the cloud, but also achieve knowledge sharing with other robots in the cloud.
