MIMO-OFDM and single carrier FDMA has recently been considered as a capable downlink and uplink transmission schemes for long-term evolution (LTE). The use of OFDM has some limitation when it is considered for uplink transmission, such as its high peak to average power ratio (PAPR), therefore a new technique, single carrier, is considered for uplink. Single carrier FDMA is as beneficial as OFDM with an addition of low PAPR. In this paper, performance of MIMO-OFDM and SC-FDMA is evaluated using different digital modulation schemes like QPSK, 16-PSK and 4-QAM by modelling a Rayleigh fading channel having single and multiple taps, through simulations. PAPR simulation is also given to support the use of SC-FDMA in uplink transmission.
