Internet and other technologies have brought many applications and models for supporting distance learning systems, particularly on- line graduate courses. By using the naturalistic inquiry qualitative research method, this work studied the way people use and interact in an electronic space named Web Shared Object (WSO), a space where the students must generate collaboratively a specific product. This study took place in an on-line MIS graduate course in a Mexican University. The article describes some aspects of the observed situation such as the use of messages to pre-structure discussion forum spaces, the development of interaction patterns in student teams using the computer tools, and the evolution of mechanisms for coordination and awareness.
