Abstract

This paper studies the quantization and coding problem for linear control systems under data-rate limitations. There exists a communication channel between the sensors and the controllers. The information on the plant states needs to be transmitted, but the data rate of the channel is limited. On the basis of the fixed-length coding, a quantization and coding scheme is designed to make sure that the system is observable and stabilizable. The quantized feedback control scheme is also proposed to stabilize the system in this case. A new lower bound on the required data rate is derived.
