Abstract

To realise high-precision, real-time, and automated distance measurement in frequency-modulated continuous wave systems, this study proposes a closed-loop ranging architecture that integrates signal modelling, error compensation, and visualisation feedback. The system constructs a chirp-based transmitter and a coherent receiver front-end, forming a complete signal chain encompassing frequency mixing, sampling, and spectral analysis. A multi- module simulation framework is implemented to derive accurate beat frequency–distance mappings using fast Fourier transform (FFT) extraction and least-squares fitting. To mitigate non- idealities, such as phase drift and sampling jitter, a phase error correction algorithm and adaptive bandwidth tuning mechanism are introduced, ensuring stable response across varying target scenarios. The software platform features a modular structure supporting real-time waveform monitoring, spectral trend tracking, and system parameter adjustment. Experimental validation across a 0.5–10 m range demonstrates an average distance error within ±0.6 mm and a response latency below 150 ms, confirming the system’s effectiveness under controlled disturbance environments. The proposed architecture provides a scalable foundation for intelligent sensing and automated ranging in robotics and embedded perception applications.
