Abstract

Urban road intersections are traffic nodes where pedestrians and vehicles gather and evacuate from different directions, and it is easy to form congestion points. This paper proposes an intelligent control design for traffic lights at intersections. The passing time of vehicles queuing at intersections is optimised. The waiting time of vehicles queuing at intersections, the effect of alleviating congestion, and vehicle flow emissions are analysed. The results show that when the queuing of vehicles in different directions at intersections is uneven, the intelligent traffic light control system can reduce waiting time, congestion, and vehicle flow emissions. The more uneven the queuing of vehicles is, the better the effect of reducing congestion and emissions will be.
