Least mean square (LMS), grid-tied, photovoltaic (PV), battery, fuel cell (FC), power electronics, power quality
This article describes the variable parameter zero-attracting least mean square-based voltage source converter control of grid-tied dual-stage photovoltaic-battery-fuel cell system. The proposed control performs a multifunctional operation to maintain adequate stability and power quality of the system. The suggested control is better than the conventional control in handling the sporadic nature of irradiations and other dynamic conditions. The battery energy storage system consists of a combination of proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and lead-acid battery. The lead-acid battery compensates for slow dynamics of PEMFC; on the other hand, PEMFC ensures the reliable power supply during cloudy weather and insufficient battery charging. The presented system worked satisfactorily under fixed power mode and variable power mode, i.e., varying load and insolation in MATLAB simulation environment as described in IEEE 519 standard.
