Abstract

When the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind tur- bines are connected to the grid, the complex operating conditions may lead to the torsional vibration of the shaft system, which is an important factor affecting the shaft life. Therefore, it is very important to study the torsional vibration suppression method for the shaft system of DFIG-based wind turbine. This paper presents a modal decoupling method to analyse the influence of the electro- magnetic torque and the rotor-side converter control system of the DFIG-based wind turbine on the torsional vibration of the shaft system considering the three-mass shaft model. Based on these analysis results, a torsional vibration suppression strategy for the shaft system using additional damping torque control is then pro- posed. Simulations have been carried out using MATLAB/Simulink to validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. With the pro- posed strategy, the oscillation of the shaft torque and the generator rotor speed is well suppressed at both two natural oscillation fre- quencies. Meanwhile, the shafting system of wind turbine recovers to its steady state faster after grid disturbances, and the amplitude of the torsional vibration is reduced.
