Abstract

Regular pipe cleaning for dehydration, cleaning and inspection was an industry standard procedure for pigs. The development of pigging technology is closely related to the progress of the pig operation rules in the pipeline. The pig operation rules in the pipeline play an important role in promoting the development of pigging technology. Inadequate understanding of the characteristics of friction can cause serious errors. As the friction parallel to the shell of pipe was a function of the radial adhesion force, this paper is based on the parameters related to the mechanical properties of contact materials obtained from the experiment; a two-dimensional non-linear finite element model with respect to axisymmetric was established in ANSYS to calculate the pig adhesion force. Under different pressure differential conditions, the effects of filling, thickness, fillet and clamping rate for the adhesion force for the pipe were studied. The research results have a more accurate and full understanding of the characteristics of friction and can provide useful information for the formulation of theoretical or mathematical models for predicting the friction of pigs. At the same time, it provides certain design ideas and improvement methods for the design and selection of the pig, so as to more effectively reduce the risk of pigging.
