Abstract

This article aims to present a technical overview of the recent advancements for low-noise switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives in domestic and commercial applications. The development of SRM is gaining much popularity because of its liberty from permanent magnets, excellent fault tolerant capabilities, and superior perfor- mance. Regardless of numerous benefits, SRM inherits the ill effects of torque ripple and radial distortion due to its structural inclination. Therefore, for high-performance applications, it is im- perative to improve the motor’s control to conquer the downsides of the machine’s internal characteristics. This article features the recent contributions in converter topologies and control strategies for enhancing the operational characteristics of SRM. Progressive technical innovations are reviewed, tabulated, and compared based on similar parameters.
