Abstract

In this paper, the aim is to identify the effect of the internal arrangement of power system substations on the optimal placement of phasor measurement units (PMU) for full observability of power systems. First, new observability constraints are written for the optimal placement of PMUs (OPP) (under normal and N-1 contingency conditions) with respect to the status of breakers for full observability of buses and nodes of the total network. Then, the probability of the observability index for the total network under normal and N-1 contingency conditions was studied. All the techniques proposed in this paper are presented on a modified 14-bus network, and the simulation results are compared with the results obtained in previous similar research. Finally, the simulation results show the significant effect of the proposed method in solving the OPP problem and ensuring full observability network [considering the status of the circuit breakers (CBs) under normal and N-1 contingency conditions].
