Abstract

This paper describes a low-cost miniaturized 3D reconstruction approach using structured light. By projecting known patterns onto a surface shape and structure of the surface can be measured and characteristic parameters of deformation can be determined. Existing approaches use large geometries and complex optical components. Here we present our system with a size of a cigarette pack and a working distance of only 6 cm. The theoretical depth resolution of the system, estimated from the camera and projector resolution and the system geometry, is about 150 µm. The total costs for components excluding PC and mount are less than 300 EUR.
