Non-uniformity, conductance catheter, heart, volume, model
Non-uniformity in imposed electric fields is one factor decreasing the accuracy of measurements of intra ventricular blood volume using the impedance electrode technique. To investigate this problem, we present analytical and numerical solutions for the electric field in a conductor with asymmetrical source/sink electrodes. The results expose the effects of current ratio between first and second source/sink electrodes as well as the optimum position of both source/sink electrodes. We plan to use this knowledge to develop improved conductance catheter configurations for blood volume measurement in the right ventricle.
