Abstract

With the rapid development of modern avionics system, traditional MIL-STD-1553 bus cannot meet the requirements of high-speed communication. In this paper, a method of improving the transmis- sion rate of the avionics bus is purposed by implementing a discrete multitone interface over existing MIL-STD-1553 bus. Physical layer and analog front end are designed and analyzed in detail. This solu- tion has been evaluated on baseband platform and is demonstrated to be effective. The maximum data rate can achieve 100 Mbit/s. It shows a tremendous performance improvement as well as significant cost savings by keeping legacy devices and MIL-STD-1553 cables.
