Abstract

This article presents an efficient and simple approach for solving the emission constrained economic dispatch (ECED) problem. The ECED problem is solved using evolutionary programming (EP) with system lambda as decision variable and power mismatch as fitness function. Solution acceleration techniques that enhance the speed and robustness of the algorithm are developed. The power and usefulness of the proposed algorithm are demonstrated through its application to a test system. The computational results reveal that the proposed algorithm has excellent convergence characteristics and is superior to the standard EP-based method with unit generation as variable.
