Abstract

This article addresses the problem of corrosion damage of reinforcing bars inside reinforced concrete girders and develops a magnetic memory effect-based research of reinforcing bar damage inside bridges. The study was carried out to investigate the corrosion of reinforced concrete beams after the internal steel bars were corroded by using the magnetic dipole model theory combined with COMSOL software programming simulation. Firstly, the force-magnetic loading is performed using COMSOL, and then the finite element electromagnetic analysis is performed according to the force-magnetic coupling model. The results show that the normal component of the leakage magnetic field crosses the zero point and at the same time the value of the tangential component reaches to a peak indicating the plastic deformation of the steel bar and the irreversible rearrangement of the internal magnetic domain structure, which leads to the change of the permeability of the steel bar and finally causes the change of the magnetic field of the test piece. This simulation clearly explains the feasibility of using the magnetic memory theory to detect rebar damage, which demonstrates the applicability of force-magnetic coupling modeling.
