Abstract

A novel terminal slide observer based on the fast reaching law is proposed in this paper, which is used to accurately estimate rotor position and speed of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for a sensorless vector control system. Firstly, a non- singular fast terminal sliding mode surface is constructed, which results in a quick convergence of the observation error of currents to zero, and other advantages of the surface include avoiding the singular problem as well as effectively suppressing chattering. Then, the control law of terminal slide observer is designed with the fast power reaching law. Finally, the information of rotor position and speed is extracted from the phase-locked loop. Experimental results show that the speed estimation accuracy of the designed new terminal SMO is improved by 49.3% and 35.3%, respectively, when the speed changes rapidly and jumps. The new terminal sliding mode observer can effectively improve the speed estimation accuracy of PMSM. The system has good dynamic and static performance.
