Abstract

As a key component in the mechanical power transmission system, gears have been receiving much attention in terms of fault diagnosis methods, state and condition monitoring. One of the most striking methods is the stator current analysis method of driving motors. Based on the theoretical and the experimental analysis, this paper discusses the relationship between the gear fault characteristics and the electrical harmonic frequency components in the stator current signals of the asynchronous motor inverter. The simulation and the test analysis of the stator current signal in front and back of the converter were carried out when the gear was normal and with fault conditions. The results show that although there are a lot of inverter harmonics in the stator currents on both sides of the inverter, the stator current signal in front of the frequency converter has the characteristics of stable carrier frequency, high harmonic frequency and wide modulating frequency band. Therefore, gear fault diagnosis with the front stator current of the inverter is an effective solution to reduce or eliminate the impact of frequency inverter harmonics.
