Induction motor, predictive controller, neural network observer, sensorless vector control
Sensorless control of drives offers higher reliability at lower cost. However, sensorless control scheme is complex, with intense mathe- matical computations involved. This paper addresses some of the is- sues involved with different sensorless schemes. The proposed model uses a predictive control algorithm along with neural network in order to estimate and control the rotor speed in an induction motor drive. Predictive controller has the ability to predict the behaviour of the system by predicting the future manipulated variable using present output and reference. Neural network is designed to esti- mate the present output. This results in robust control of the drive irrespective of disturbances and motor parameter variations, with ease in mathematical computations. Simulation has been carried out in MATLAB in order to investigate the performance of drive in real time.
