Predictive modification effect analysis (PMEA) aims at avoiding harmful execution and costly but unnecessary exploration of hardware-related modifications by investigating in advance, whether the modifications' (negative) side effects will outweigh the (positive) intended effects. An important aspect of PMEA is system workload consideration, because of its strong influence on nearly all infrastructure attributes, like performance or reliability. The paper presents an approach to calculate system workload, incorporating development over time, parallel task execution, high flexibility, and other aspects. Additionally, it outlines promising results of first experiments and a prototype.
