Abstract

The feasibility of applying novel calcium based sorbents in a chemical heat pump using a calcium sorbent/lead oxide/ carbon dioxide reaction system was examined. The sorbent was able to carbonate at 880 °C at 1 atm CO2 pressure and decomposed at 860 °C under 0.4 atm CO2 pressure, with reasonable rates respectively. The sorbent maintained a high conversion over 24 cycles, overcoming one of the major problems existing in the system when using natural calcium oxide.
