FPGA based Compact and Re-Configurable Implementation of WCDMA/OFDM Modulator

Abstract

With the technological advances in smart phones and laptops, the demand for higher data rates have become a necessity of the present wireless digital communication systems, so a new technology is required which can fulfil the user needs by providing satisfactory data rates. The development next-generation broadband mobile technologies is in progress that are utilizing Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) Protocols. In this paper, we have presented an approach for compact, re-configurable and cost-effective WCDMA/OFDM modulator. We have implemented the disjoint modules of both systems and validated the results by implementing the modules in Spartan3 FPGA kit using Verilog.
