A Simple Approach to Tracking the Fundamental Frequency based on Correction with a Smoothing Operation

The fundamental frequency F0 is an important parameter for various methods of speech processing, including speech recognition and speech identification. In this paper, we present a simple but efficient method for tracking F0 in the time domain. Our approach is based on an autocorrelation function followed by correction with a smoothing operation that uses an estimated long-term pitch. This method performs well for both clean and noisy speech samples.
