Combined Model-based and Transform-based Compression for ECG Signal Compression

Abstract

Model-based and Transform-based methods are two approaches in compressing an ECG signal. A technique to combine both techniques is proposed. Differential Coding for ECG Signal is used as model-based compression method and discrete cosine transform is used as transform-based method. With model-based approach DC value and R-peak of the ECG signal is removed and therefore the remaining signal have smaller range of amplitude to be compressed. The results show that the proposed technique can improve the compression ratio of ECG signal compared to other techniques.
