Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of a charging equalization circuit for LiFePO4 batteries. LiFePO4 batteries not only provide power to the load, but also improve stability and safety of the system. Due to the different charging/discharging characteristics and ageing degree of the batteries, the stored energy of each battery may not be the same in string batteries charging. Therefore, the charging efficiency and the battery cycle life will be reduced. In order to improve the charging efficiency and extend the battery cycle life, the charger for the battery string must have the capability of charging equalization. LiFePO4 battery module includes a charging equalization circuit that can ensure charging voltage to be regulated and improve the performance of LiFePO4 batteries. A digital signal processor (DSP TMS320LF2407A) is used to control the system. A charging equalization circuit is constructed and tested to verify the system performance.
