Transmission lines, Power connections, Grid efficiency, Desert conditions
This paper introduces an approach to optimise electrical joints in power connections for more efficient power grids in the Middle East and North African region. It assesses the performance of existing power systems and gives an overview on capacity targets for transmission and distribution infrastructure and renewable sources of energy in the examined countries. Based on scientific background, a calculation model is established to determine optimisation potential of power connections for different scenarios. To implement this knowledge into practice, the paper suggests a field based experimental research. Hereby, it introduces the concept of extreme conditions to pay respect to specific environmental parameters of a desert environment.
