Abstract

Based on application practices of the Campus WAMS developed in Western Japan 60-Hz power system, this study employs the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) to analyze oscillation characteristics. Japan Campus WAMS and brief theories of FFT analysis and HHT are introduced in this paper. Then waveforms of phase difference measured between Kyushu University and Osaka University were analyzed by using FFT and HHT methods, respectively. It is demonstrated that Hilbert-Huang Transform offers more flexibility in terms of detailed profile analysis and description, which can be beneficial to small signal monitor analysts in understanding the effects on low-frequency oscillation and it will be used to future study of estimate the low-frequency oscillation of power system small-signal stability.
