Abstract

Portable grounding line is an effective means to ensure the security of maintenance personnel. The proper selection of portable grounding line is of great importance which is based on the grounding procession and the current through the grounding line. In this paper a model to calculate the current through the grounding line is presented and the numerical method is used to deal with the model. With the help of this model the stable current and the transient current through the grounding line is calculated including the waveform and the amplitude of current. Furthermore the factors that can influence the amplitude of transient current is analyzed and calculated. It shows that the closing moment of grounding line connected to the busbar can influence the peak current which can be several hundreds of amperes. Conclusion can be got under this situation that the transient current can not significantly damage the grounding line by the heat caused by the current procession in the grounding line so the grounding line is safely used and the principle of the portable grounding line is clarified theoretically.
