Abstract

Fault detection is being widely used for different processes; this investigation focuses on the application of Principal Component Analysis for fault detection at a Natural Gas Transmission Company. The objective was to develop a Fault Detection Software capable of detecting fault conditions at the pipeline. To overcome lack of information related to fault events, simulation software used for Gas Controllers training and pipeline operation was used to simulate leaks scenarios. All of the simulated faults were detected by the developed tool and the results showed that gas controllers could receive an alarm condition in a reduced time gap.
