Fuzzy, operating states, complex plants
Today operators still elicit day to day control of some complex chemical plants. Such plants include glass furnaces and cement kilns whose non linear dynamics make them difficult to control via conventional methods. This paper looked at using fuzzy logic to mimic the operators’ decision making strategy in these complex plants. A general method was developed using knowledge of the plants’ operating conditions to partition data and design rules. The fuzzy system was designed and simulated using FuzzyTECH and the results showed good comparison between what the operators currently do and the fuzzy system designed. The error between operators and the fuzzy system was at most 10% which is acceptable since this difference sometimes occurs between operators at the same plant.
