We consider the control design for a mechanical system containing uncertainty. The uncertainty may be due to unknown parameter and initial condition. The available information of the uncertainty is prescribed by fuzzy characteristics. That is, the uncertainty is assumed to be within certain fuzzy sets. The control design problem is to minimize a performance index, which reflects the system’s average fuzzy characteristics. We cast the problem into an We show how to solve for the optimal gain parameters. We stress that the system model and control considered in this paper are neither the Takagi-Sugeno type nor the Mamdani type, as are typically seen in fuzzy control research.
