In this paper, we describe a new interactive museum guide system that use ubiquitous communication for contents transmitting, contents automatic playing and guide device management. To realize the system, we developed a new portable device that can use various ubiquitous communication such as instant infrared communication to get the multimedia contents, RFID or low speed infrared communication that can start a content playing automatically. The new system also provides a powerful and efficient device management performance that can monitor the device status and update the contents in the devices and obtain the user's operation data. The new system is used to provide a guide service in a main scientific museum in Japan and a good performance was confirmed.
